About Oxted Gardening Group

A group of 30 passionate gardeners cultivating connections, nurturing nature, and growing together through permaculture principles.

Our Story

Oxted Gardening Group was born from a basket of events, including the inadvertent availability of 3 allotment plots, an enduring wish to supplement our floral displays and an imminent move to Oxted.

Since then, we have quickly evolved into a group of approximately 30 members, and into an enthusiastic community with a shared focus.

Our latest achievement—a newly planted mini-orchard with six fruit trees—represents a continued aspiration to build 'upwards'.

Our Location

Our initial growing site is located in Croydon, Surrey, with plans to expand to our Oxted premises or relocate to a site more approximate to Oxted.

Nonetheless, we are fortunate to garden in such a serene and 'detached' environment, as we currently have.

Finding Us at Meadow Hill Fields

Address: Purley Way on the border of Croydon/Sutton (Near Wyevale Garden Centre), CR0 4RES.

Directions: Access is via the entrance next to Wyevale Garden Centre on Purley Way.

Our Permaculture Philosophy

We're guided by permaculture's three core ethics and apply its principles to create gardens that work with nature, not against it.

Earth Care

We nurture healthy soil through composting, mulching, and minimal disturbance. Our no-dig beds, cover crops, and organic practices build soil life and sequester carbon.

Our group thrives on shared knowledge, mutual support, and inclusive practices. We welcome members of all experience levels and celebrate learning together.

Fair Share

We share harvests equitably, save and swap seeds, and ensure our gardens produce surplus for wildlife, composting, and mutual aid within our group.
